Grooming:

GroomingGeneral Hygiene. The habit of daily grooming is a good one. Healthy cats usually keep themselves clean by constant cleaning or washing with their tongues. Daily use of a comb and brush will help this process, especially in the longhair breeds. Powders like talcum, corn starch, or French chalk can be shaken into the coat before brushing. These powders combine with the natural oil in the hair and act as a good dry cleaner. Regular grooming will minimize the problems of loose hair in the house and the formation of hair balls, which are masses of matted hair that accumulate in the cat's digestive tract as a result of the animal's licking of its fur.

Grooming himself for the 1908 nomination, Hearst ran for mayor of New York City in 1905, fought the Tammany Hall machine single-handed, and nearly won. His popularity was evident, and his star seemed on the rise. But in 1906 he made a deal with the same Tammany organization that he had so recently excoriated and ran for governor of New York. He was beaten decisively by Charles Evans Hughes.
